Casper the Friendly Ghost
A Tribute to Daniel Johnston
This Mask is Called Casper for several different reasons. First and foremost, Daniel loves Casper and the music video that cemented my love for his music features him dancing in a long white shroud with a Casper mask on dancing in slow-motion black and white in a park. The more I learn about Daniel and the more of his art that I see and hear, the more I know he loves Casper. Daniel is a lot like Casper, child-like and naive, but wise beyond his years. The world has never really known how to take Daniel Johnston. When a lot of people hear his music at first they think it's some sort of joke. Maybe that's why Daniel's music has been covered by so many people. Over 150 bands have covered his music including, Tom Waits, Pearl Jam and Beck. He was a huge part of the indie-rock scene in the mid-to late eighties and early nineties but never attained glory like so many of his predecessors and colleagues. However with the release of the documentary film, "The Devil and Daniel Johnston" he has been pushed back into the spotlight for a whole new generation to experience. I remember the first time that I heard Daniel Johnston. My cousin brought over "Little Miss Sunshine" and "The Devil and Daniel Johnston". We decided to watch Little Miss, but Travis told me I had to copy The Devil and Dan because it would quote, "change my life...” unquote, so I popped it into the computer. I never finished Little Miss Sunshine I was quickly enthralled by this odd off melody music that reminded me of an abstract painting or Tom Waits song. When the movie finishes they run the credits along the side of Daniel as he dances in the music video "Your Picture" and I couldn't help but almost breakdown. Everything about the man oozes talent and intelligence, but his life has been so rife with strife and sadness it could have been any of us. And I think that's what makes Daniel so great. He could have been any one of us, but he pushed the boundaries and the limits until he erupted, pushing himself beyond the edge into a whole other world; a supernatural world in fact. After I heard his music and watched the documentary I had to start spreading the word. Why had I never heard of this genius before? How had I missed his name in the liner notes of all those Tom Waits albums? No matter, I was going to make up for lost time. So I took a copy of the movie of to Chris Gideon's house. He's one of my few friends who can approach music so primarily and unbiased he had to get Daniel like I did, I just knew he would. And he did. After we finished watching the movie I asked him if he wanted to do a mask to honor Daniel. His immediate response was, "actually I want to do two masks."
Chris was so impressed with Daniela and his friends that he wants to present a mask not only to Daniel Johnston but his one time manager and the reason that Daniel has attained any notoriety at all, Jeff Tartakov. Although we had decided to do the mask, it doesn't just happen like that. You have to let the art create itself, flowing through you, like Blind Faith. So, when I came by a little less than a month later and saw Casper sitting on the end table next to Chris' couch I flipped out. It was so childlike and natural, no real lines and a simple beauty that just exudes from the piece. Chris didn't know what to call it, he had no idea that he'd just made his Daniel Johnston mask. I asked him if he saw it and immediately he was like, okay... I knew I recognized that thing. So this is only the first piece in a set, but who knows how long it will be before Jeff's piece is done, one can never really gauge this sort of thing. In the meantime however, Chris and I both really want to present this awesome piece to Daniel Johnston.

Just finished Monday March 15 this humorous mini mask sculpture of one of my favorite Counter Culture Heroes CHEECH MARIN from such classic as Up In Smoke,Still Smoking,Nice Dreams,Things Are Tough All Over,Next Movie and Tons of other films And Voices for such animation as Lion King.
I've got tickets for Saturday March 27 for their stage performance Cheech and Chong Get It Legal Tour. Sponsored by MPP at the beautifully historic Coronado Performing Arts Center in Rockford,Illinois.
I meet these Heroes of mine , I gave these cool little Cheech and Chong Mini Mask to their True owners & also got to give a nice Gold & Silver Ring to Shelby Chong.

R.I.P. Jack Herer was the Director and Founder of HEMP (Help End Marijuana Prohibition). The diverse properties of the scorned and condemned marijuana plant can provide sufficient clothing, oil, medicine, fuel, food and shelter for all the people of the world, if completely legalized and commercialized. Hemp will prove to be the means of saving the planet from acid rain, global warming and the depletion of our precious forests and fossil fuels.
Claiming that the effective outlawing of hemp in the 1930’s was granded more in economics than sincere moral beliefs Jack Herer goes on to profess that the plant can literally save the world by replacing much logging and oil drilling with cleaner agriculture.

Lapis Black N Blue FOOT Pendant with Gold Toes
Humorous Foot Pendant
This is my first attempt at creating a Foot Pendant. I sawed the foot out of Sterling Silver Sheet, was not too bad until I got to the toes- broke a bunch of blades. Then I took my favorite tiny hammer and started embossing this small two inch tall metal foot. Next came the 14K Gold Toe (Nails) that I soldered in place.
At this point, the foot is taking on some humorous character. The Black and Blue Lapis Lazuli are set in fine silver with a little extra soldered work on the Balls and Bail.Through that last stage I was trying my best not to Laugh , So as not to mess up or jinx myself out of a great pendant..

After sculpting the Head together with sterling silver I found a Black Jewelry Box that became Rush s body suit The moving dangling white arms and black legs are plastic text book binders that are holding his favorite pills OXYCONTIN
For the final touch I took heavy duty velcro and secured the body to the head The black box with a little imagination looks like one of his many black suites this overpaid fat bastard owns Hope you Like or Hate my humor either way I m RUSHing this Shit out There ENJOY

I actually gave this piece of art to the Great Tommy Chong himself. This mini sculpture started with this cool creek rock with this mouth hole . I used Sterling Silver wire to tie this awesome character together. Hope you enjoy this Happy B-Day Tommy !

The SARAH PALIN Story Life of a Doo Doo BIRD
Humorous Political Sculpture
Sarah Palin the Humorous Bird Sculpture was so much fun to create. She sits at approx. 6 inches in height. Her neck, tail, and legs are sculpted in sterling silver (neck and tail are embossed). Sarah has a cool red shell holding in all those brilliant thoughts/agendas (in her Dodo brain). Her eyes are represented with turquoise and black onyx. Mrs. Palin's dirty beak consists of petrified wood (was broken but is now repaired) that likes to peck her own Hoo-Hah (vagina) which consists of a beautiful Brazilian agate. I think that's how she broke her beak, from to much pecking at it. Maybe it just runs in the family?
Hope you like my newest creation. As an abstract visionary sculptor I feel it is my job to color outside the lines. To not be afraid to be different, to bring You the viewer something completely unique, full of heart, soul, and sometimes rage, and more importantly humor.
